2.a. Rods

The action of a rod determines where it will bend.
The more the action is 'fast'and the more the tip will bend this is called the action of the tip.
A rod with 'Moderate' action will bend slower, and rather in the middle of the rod. This is translated in a parabolic action

- Extra Fast : only bending at the tip
- Fast : mainly bending at tip
- Moderate Fast : moderate bending
- Moderate : parabolic
- Slow : very parabolic

My rods

1. Rod for pike : Fishkix Imperator C1 195cm 250g Perfect castign rod for 'Big Bait' specially developed for the big lures of Fishkix : up to 250gr.

2. Rod for whitefish/perche : Fishkix Jiver S1 235cm 10g Spinning dropshot rod up to 10gr.

3. Rod for big perche : Fishkix Abler S4 210cm 25g : Spinning rod for small lures (7-8cm) with lead head up to 20g. For big perche et medium pike in waters of 5 to 20m deep.

4. Rod for pike : Fishkix C3 Abler C3 215cm 70g : Casting rod for medium sized lures (10-18cm) for pike and sander.

2.b. Reels

The two main reel types

Reels can be classified into two main categories: spinning reels and baitcasting reels.

For spinning reel models, the spool does not move. This is the wire that wraps around the spool by the rotary motion of the handle of the reel itself driven by turns of the fisherman.
The other type is the so called baitcasting reel. For this reel, the spool axis is positioned perpendicular to the rod, and when the angler rotates the handle, it is directly rotating the spool.
The spinning reel is easy to use, but the baitcasting reels are known for their excellent brake. The term "brake" means a system that releases the wire beyond a certain tension, thus preventing breakage of the line.
It should however be noted that in the high-end, two types of reels are now almost infallible. For many fishing techniques, the choice depends mainly on the sensations of the fisherman and his adaptation to the different techniques.

I combine the Fishkix Imperator rod for pike with a baitcasting reel from DAIWA, model Ryoga Shrapnel. For spinning I use DAIWA Exist reels.

2.c. Belly boat

While fishing in a belly boat, you will enjoy the freedom of moving on the water and you become one with nature.
The belly boat floats silently over the water, while you sit at ease in your chair.
Belly boat fishing is very well adapted for big pike fishing, vertical whitefish catches, perch and other fish from Lake Geneva.
It is also an excellent means for fly fishing.
Use flippers to propel you on the water. I also recommend a combination of waterproof wading suit, which allows fishing all year round, even in winter when the water reaches temperatures down to 4°C.
A belly boat is easy to carry and easy to deploy.
The regulations do not allow you to go more than 300m away from the lake shore. So you have to stay in the area where the speedboats do not go faster than 10km/h.

2.d. Sonar

The sonar provides a very detailed view of lake bottom and depths, which is the most important function for fishermen.

The sonar is also capable of detecting schools of fish and sometimes it detects large individual fish.

Equipped with a GPS, you can put tracks and and significant fishing spots (waypoints) in the memory.

2.e. The wires : Dyneema and Fluorocarbone

To prevent breakage and to be as responsive as possible to the touch, PE lines are a good choise. PE offers many advantages over nylon:
• for the same PE, PE is stronger than nylon
• so for equal strength, you can put more PE on your reel
• the PE is less elastic than nylon, so you can feel better your touches and strokes are faster and more effective than with nylon
• PE is better resistant to abrasion and has a longer life than nylon

PE lines give indeed extraordinary resistance with small diameter of line. Not so long ago a lot of Dyneema was used but these lines are passed now in quality by PE lines. Momoi PE lines (Ryujin or MX8) are 8 braided PE lines which compared to 4 braid lines are smoother which aloows to cast much further.
When performing vertical fishing for whitefish, a multicolored PE which changes color every 5m is recommended.

At the end of the line, always use a fluorocarbon liner, with a length of about 2 meters.
Fluorocarbon line offers several major advantages over the dyneema itself:
• fluorocarbon is virtually invisible to fish
• knots performed using fluorocarbon are be much less visible than PE knots
• even if the elasticity is not as that of nylon, fluorocarbon is still more elastic than dyneema, which will prevent breakages
• for the same diameter, fluorocarbon is stronger than nylon

For whitefish fluorocarbon of 0.16mm to 0.18mm is used. For small pike fishing, perch and large chub, I use a fluorocarbon of 0.26mm. The flourocarbon NEO from Momoi gives a high resistance for its diameters.
For fishing pike a steel wired liner can be placed directly to the PE.
